Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was a brave warrior and a freedom fighter who fought against the British during the colonial period of 1858-1947. The British came to India for trade as India is valuable for commodity. Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was born on 30 July 1905 at Puiluan Village, Nungba Sub-Division, Tamenglong District, Manipur. He was grown up from the poor family and belong to Malangmei clan of the Rongmei Naga tribe. He established the Heraka religious and started the movement in Zeliangrong territory for Naga Kingdom, Makaam Gwangdi or Naga Raj under his slogan “Makaamei Guang Tupuni” which means Nagas will reign. The movement was against the colonial British rulers of India which led a conspiracy against Haipou Jadonang and hanged to death on 29 August 1931 at the bank of Nambul river behind the Imphal jail. His movement had continued by Haipei Rani Gaidinliu who was also imprisoned by the British Indian government.
In tribute to his sacrifice for Makaam Gwangdi, or Naga Raj, his statue is dedicated on the occasion of his 93rd Death Anniversary on 29th August 2024 at Tamenglong Hq. On the program, the Chief Guest is Shri. Awangbow Newmai Hon’ble Minister, Govt. of Manipur. The President is Shri. Dinganglung Dipu Gangmei (IAS Retd.) Hon’ble Chairman, Hill Areas Committee and also Chief Host is Shri. Janghemlung Panmei Hon’ble MLA, Tamenglong.
Many students and youth organization have also taken up the cleanliness drive at different place of Haipou Jadonang Park to pay the tribute to the 93rd death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang Malangmei.
Unfortunately, an unknown miscreant have damaged the granite plague on 28 Aug 2024 night which is to be unveil on 29 Aug 2024. However, an alternative arrangement have made with flex for the uninterrupted program and the statue is successfully unveiled. The culprit who have damaged the granite plague is on search and and yet to be reveal.
